Includes descriptions of New Zealand, Samao, Fanning Island, Hawaii, North America from California to New York including San Francisco, Salt Lake City and the Mormons, the Rockies, Canada, Niagara, the United Kingdom including London, Westminster Abbey, Scotland, Aberdeen, The Crofters, Edinburgh, Belgium, Cologne, Switzerland, Paris, Rouen, Naples, Pompeii, The Suez Canal, Colombo, Fremantle, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, home to Brisbane, and more in between. Thomson recounts much of Australia and in particular Queensland to those he meets as well as participating in numerous Geographical Society meetings and the twenty-fourth National Congress of the French Geographical Societies at Rouen. The telling of his meeting with Prince Roland Bonaparte was responsible for putting in motion a series of events leading to the State Library of New South Wales’ eventual acquisition of the prized Tasman Map of Abel Tasman’s 1642 and 1644 voyages.
