21cm x 16.5cm. 1-14, 17-46, 49-70, 77-148 pages, original drawings and manuscript text. Disbound wrappers. Text is in French.

A manuscript notebook composed by a volunteer firefighter, Emilien Varcourt, with a Paris regiment between 1903 and 1906. Over 100 songs, romances, monologues, lullabies, etc, are recorded, both transcribed and original. The text is illustrated throughout with original drawings, many signed, and lightly erotic. A fantastic Parisian manuscript illuminating romance and sexuality at the beginnings of the 20th century.

The sewing has split and there are a few leaves loose. Pagination has been added in manuscript and an index created at the rear, thus alluding to 5 missing leaves, being pages 15/16, 47/48, and 71-76. A few leaves with minor closed tears or small amounts of wear to edges. The upper and lower panels are a little grubby but overall the pages are clean and bright. Fair Condition.
