Johannes Stradanus (1523-1605) was a Flemish artist who was active mainly in Florence. He was a painter, tapestry and print designer, draughtsman and pottery decorator. He contributed to the development of printmaking. His work included history subjects, mythology, allegories, portraits, landscapes, architectural scenes and animals. These engravings illustrate the hunting of wild animals, including lions, leopards, elephants, deer, wolves, rabbits, boar, bears and monkeys, as well as birds such as ostriches, falcons, ducks and swan, and water creatures like fish and alligators. One plate illustrates beekeeping. They show in great detail the hunting methods, always accompanied by dogs, and are set in country and urban landscapes.

Minor bump to tail fore-edge corner. Minor chips to fore-edge corners of jacket. Foxing and tanning, and bumped corner to slipcase. Very Good Condition.
