The compositional system behind the Alphabet Plastique works of French painter August Herbin (1882-1960). Originally a painter of realistic landscapes, Herbin became an Impressionist, then a Fauvist, before later moving into Cubism and then during the 1940s developed this system for non-figurative abstract art, outlined here together with other theories of colour and design. One of an edition of 1,000 copies, of which this is number 839.
